tmj SPECIALIsed care

Orofacial & TMJ dysfunction is a growing concern within our healthcare model & limited resources for care. TMJ is known to cause pain, clicking, clunking, or locking dysfunction in the joint. TMJ pain can be caused by the muscles of mastication, muscle tension in neck & shoulders, postural pain, headaches, incorrect breathing patterns, tooth pain & more.

THE BENEFITS

TMJ Temporomandibular Joint Education

Jaw pain from fascal muscles radiate to the temporal region of head, angle of the jaw, ear & neck & can be dull, aching & constant type pain. You may experience popping or clicking in the joint. Bruxism or grinding & jaw clenching overuse habits often are caused by habitual stress causing hypertrophy & muscle fatigue.

Specialised Treatment Plan

We are trained to manage and provide the latest functional based myofascial techniques using analysis & prescriptive exercises. To aid & assist with our careplans are dental splints or botulinum injections. A oral maxillofacial specialist may be needed if suspected degenerative & growth disorders are present.

HOW tMJ treatment WORKS

TMJ protocol is usually no more than 2-3 sessions, 5-7 days apart with a follow up appointment. The masticatory muscles are treated using external & internal release methods. Subsequently, the neck muscles & posture will also be assessed. Each treatment takes 10-30 minutes to be delivered.

consultATION PROCESS

The first consultation will include a full assessment, jaw muscle treatment & prescriptive exercise. Second consult includes an internal treatment of the jaw muscles & further functional exercises. The third follow up consultation is for reassessment of progress,  exercises & includes full jaw & neck treatment.

Continued TMJ Management

Our wellness programs were created with focus on lifestyle modifications for continued results. Remember, in most cases, pain is caused by muscle hypertension & not the joint itself. We empower you with information to make informed decisions for the best possible outcomes.
